Leaders in Us

Leadership.. and i'am out of words. i have always been thinking on how to begin this dilemma of making this article mentioning all about leadership and its stuff. To find inspiration, i've been reading..reading..and reading and...eureka!

Being able to inspire and influence other individuals is considered to be a quality of a leader. A good leader to be more accurate, but is that really only the criterion (for judging) a leader must have? No, because there are more. I've been evaluating, observing a lot people but only few did I ever considered being a leader. They say that leaders are made, not born but it can be both yes or no. Everyone is a leader in their own right, but there are some who exercise their leadership qualities to its exemplary level! Some leaders are appointed, but some are chosen because certain situation demands it.

A leader to be spotted, an individual should be or should have:

Integrity is the integration of outward actions and inner values. A person of integrity is the same on the outside and on the inside.

Dedication means spending whatever time or energy is essential to accomplish the task at hand.

Magnanimity means giving credit where it is due.

Leaders with humility recognize that they are no better or worse than other members of the team. A humble leader is not self-effacing but rather tries to elevate everyone.

Openness means being able to listen to new ideas, even if they do not conform to the usual way of thinking.

Creativity is the ability to think differently, to get outside of the box that constrains solutions.

Fairness means dealing with others consistently and justly. A leader must check all the facts and hear everyone out before passing judgment.

Assertiveness is not the same as aggressiveness. Rather, it is the ability to clearly state what one expects so that there will be no misunderstandings.

sense of humor is vital to relieve tension and boredom, as well as to defuse hostility.

After being knowledgeable on what a leader must have, do you consider yourself one? These characteristics are not instantly served, but these are step by step processes that each individual must embrace to be “that” leader. To have all of these traits, one is considered to be a great and effective leader. Leadership is to listen among followers; it’s a two way communication between the one who leads and the ones who are being led by. Being able to lead is not an easy task, but armed with determination and perseverance; one can do the job.

"The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been."
— Henry Kissinger

To lead is to motivate, and I believe in that. Motivating others to be the best that they can be, will find themselves a leader that has yet to be unleashed. As a leader, wouldn't you be grateful in unlocking the potentials among your followers? That would be the most fulfilling!

  1. Magnanimity -- so that's what it's called :))
that's my new word for the day. Thanks for the info! Indeed, these qualities are all needed to become an exceptional leader. My personal favorite is having a sense of humor (which I greatly lack, thank you very much), not everyone mentions this but I think it's always at the back of our minds. Nice one, pointing it out!

  2. A good leader whether they naturally possess these qualities or not, will be diligent to consistently develop and strengthen them in their leadership role.
